Style Tip | It is time to Upgrade Your Tracksuit

If you grew up in the 90's I am sure you can recall the infamous velour or nylon tracksuit that was a popular fashion trend.  I rocked this look in college and even a couple of years after college...I know dreadful and I have the pictures to prove it.

Fast forward to 2016, and you still see the velour + cotton w/sequin tracksuits with teenagers & college coeds that love the Victoria Secret Pink Collection.  However I am here to say if you are established in your business or career or on the way to building a professional brand, this should not be a staple in your wardrobe.  Matchy sweatsuits are perfectly fine if you are going to the gym or maybe even running errands on the weekends.  Anything other than that you should not be wearing a tracksuit on the regular basis.

So what exactly are you suppose to wear on casual days instead of a track suit?  Joggers are a great alternative for casual style & its presents a more "pull together" casual look.  Joggers can be dressed up with heels or dressed down with flat shoes or sandals.

Joggers can be worn on multiple occasions from brunch with friends to a night out with your significant other when dressed up.

This jogger jumpsuit is perfect for the office or a day of client meetings and can be worn in every season with just simply adding your favorite blazer or jacket to the look + a statement jewelry piece.

I love these recent images of First Lady Michelle Obama rocking her joggers + a crisp white blouse.  This look screams polished, playful & professional all at the same time.

One of my favorite tips that I give when styling busy professionals is that you want your look both at the office & on the weekends to be a seamless transition.  You don't want to be stuffy Monday - Friday and then let you hair down on the weekends with your clothes.  There is a way to infuse your personality into your wardrobe by adding key pieces to boost your style.  Sure you may have to wear suits to the office but whose to say you can't add a patterned blouse, killer bag + heels?  Style first starts with an attitude of confidence and loving what you see when you look in the mirror.

Men's Style Monday | 5 Shoes Every Man Should Own

‬Men's Style Monday is back! If there is one thing okay maybe 2 things that I notice when meeting men...his shoes definitely top the list. Investing in quality shoes can take a simple style from mediocre to on point.

Here are 5 shoes that every man should own in their wardrobe.

1. A black dress shoe
2. A brown dress shoe
3. An ankle boot that can be dressed up or down.
4. A casual shoe to wear with jeans or khakis
5. A sneaker that's not a cross trainer or running shoe for casual looks w/jeans or joggers.

Fellas how is your shoe game looking these days? If it's just mediocre let me know how I can help you get it On Point.  Contact me to schedule your complementary style consultation www.OpulentCouturierStyle.com

Health + Beauty | Skin Deep with Beauty Counter

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending the Your Health & Beauty More Than Skin Deep session that was held at my church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Nashville.  The event was hosted by our First Lady Dr. Stephaine Walker and some amazing special guests.   I was really intrigued by the event after hearing Dr. Steph talk about Beauty Counter products one evening via Periscope.   Many of you know I love beauty products and I also review them for companies and Beauty Counter was a company that I knew nothing about.

The overall message of the session wasn't so much about Beauty Counter but it was really about taking care of yourself and your body.  Dr. Stephaine had several amazing friends that spoke about their health/wellness and gave testimonies that were really eye opening.
One speaker that really touched me was Madame Athena Chang.  Her message was simple & graceful, take control of your health we are not getting any younger and you do this by cutting thing out little by little from our diets or beauty regime.  She encouraged us all to take a look at ourselves and our lives and take into account the things that matter the most.  Most importantly take care of our body in order to honor the Spirit.  We are all getting older and its important to acknowledge the changes that we are seeing within our body because they are a blessing.  As women we can not give to others what we can't give to ourselves.  Very powerful indeed!

Beauty Counter is a cosmetic company that not only wants to educate the consumer on product safety but also they have created a cosmetic line that is safe from chemicals.  There are over 10,500 products in the cosmetic industry, but an estimated 90% of those have not been assessed for safety by any publicly accountable body.
The United States has not passes a federal law governing the cosmetics industry since 1938.  The European Union has banned nearly 1,400 ingredients from cosmetics, yet the US has banned or restricted only 11.  (excerpt from Beauty Counter material)

What really shocked me during the beauty session was the amount of chemicals that can cause cancer, reproductive harm, and other serious issues that are in skin care & other cosmetic products.  Many of the products I use currently on a daily/weekly basis.

Enjoy this video to learn more about the success of Beauty Counter & how it all began.

Also during the beauty session, we were educated about the "Never List" and what products and ingredients we should avoid if at all possible. (The Never List can be found on the Beauty County website).  This was not a session to encourage you to trash all of your current products but more of an informational because like the old saying goes, "When you know better you do better".  There is an iPhone & Android app called Skin Deep-Healthy Living if you would like to learn more about the products that you currently use & their safety rating.  I have personally scanned many of my favorite products and I must admit, 80% of them had very high scores of 6 or above.  Yikes!

Overall this was a very informative Women's Health & Beauty session that I gained so much information.  If you would like to learn more about Beauty Counter please check out their website & if you would like to order products please click this link for Dr. Stephaine Walker.

Product Review | Influenster + Maybelline Fit Me Foundation

I love being apart of the Influenster community because as a self diagnosed product junkie it allows me to try products both from the drug store but also luxury cosmetic brands.  I was recently sent for product review the Maybelline New York Fit Me Poreless + Matte Foundation.

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation is a product that I have worn for a few months that I purchased from Target originally in the Color 330 Toffee which I thought was my perfect shade.  Until....

I received the Fit Me Foundation in the color 335 Classic Tan which I immediately thought it was going to be the incorrect color for my complexion.  Well the fine people at Influenster and Maybelline nailed my shade 100%.  I've tested out the Classic Tan for a few days, taking pictures, etc.  It matches perfectly both in natural light & also flash photography.  Its always important to test at least those 2 when trying out a new foundation color because store lighting can sometimes be tricky especially in the drugstore.

Facts about Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation:
  • Recently added 8 new skin-fitting tones
  • 40 total skin fitting tones in all, so you are sure to find just the right shade
  • Mattifies and blurs pores (I have large pores so it is a must!)
  • Works best with Normal to Oily skin types
  • It is a liquid foundation so be sure to set it with the Fit Me powder to lock in the color.
  • I love it because in most US drugstores + department stores like Target it is priced at under $10

The Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation is definitely a foundation that I would recommend especially if you have normal to early skin.  The coverage is buildable and it also last all day with minimal need to blot your face.

This a fresh application of the 335 Classic Tan and my face is smooth & flawless.
Thank you Influenster and Maybelline for the opportunity to give my honest opinion on this product & I look forward to working with you again soon!
